As a concept provider in various fields of technology, HITEC Luxembourg has been and is until now involved in a number of traffic management projects. In the period of 1996 to 2002 HITEC Luxembourg has been actively participating in a number of projects. CITA, the Luxembourg highway monitoring system is one of the most important projects in this business area. HITEC Luxembourg's involvement in CITA covered Consulting and Engineering, Concept and Specifications, Call for Tenders and Evaluation as well as Project Management and Supervision of Project.

HITEC Luxembourg, with its French partner ISIS, has submitted a proposal to the Luxembourg Highways Department for PIOT (Plan d’Interventions d’ Urgence et d’Organisation des Travaux), which develops and implements safety and emergency plans for all major road tunnels in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.

Concept development includes:

• planning incident procedures
• task force management
• decisions on action in rescue and salvage operations
• action plan proposal
• automatic call on task forces

SIFO, Simulation de Formation, is another traffic management project, designed to ensure that operators know how to respond to emergency situations. HITEC Luxembourg has developed a simulation environment for realistic, reactive and intelligent training, using authentic scenarios which can be adapted for different types of training.

ICME, Informatisation des Conditions Minimales d'Exploitation, is conceived to support operators of tunnels in deciding if a tunnel can be operated or not. This system ensures real-time analysis and interpretation of measured data allowing to keep the safety of the tunnels at their nominal level. Different groups of security and safety related equipment (temperature and air pollution sensors, ventilation, power supply, signalisation, control and monitoring systems or detection of breakdown vans) are systematically controlled to guaranty full functioning of all security solutions through redundancy. 

HITEC Luxembourg has carried out several studies of traffic management systems using the latest technologies, many of which have since been implemented:

• road safety improvements
• evaluation and transmission of multiple data types (voice, images, data) and circulation to various organisations for control, information and action
• tunnel security through implementation of innovative monitoring system
